Wake me up, Lord!
Rouse me like Jacob from my slumber.
Once fully alert, I know I will see You and know You are with me.
But I squeeze my eyes shut to avoid Your light that will expose my brokenness.
My eyelids are heavy with the weight of the world.
I try to arouse by myself, but my foggy mind drifts back to the grayness of only partial existence.
Shake me from my sluggish complacency and carelessness.
Even with eyes wide open I fail to see You present.
It is only through Your gift of faith I know Your presence.
Thank You for watching over me as I sleepwalk through life and blindly navigate its twists and turns.
With Your strong and spiritual stirring, my soul soars to perceive Your presence.
Wake me up Lord.

I LOVE this verse -- it reminds me so much of myself. I think I don't see God, I think I can't hear him, and then (usually in retrospect) I see the evidence that he'd been there all along.

I get so distracted from Him going about my day. Sometimes I think it takes something like a bolt of lightening from the sky to get me to pay attention sometimes. I so resonated with this post!

I have been going through a period of sluggish complacency of late and on the odd occasion, I think to myself, I could do with a good shake!!
I know that through the gift of faith God is present with me, but sometimes I just need to be stirred up.
Thank you for obliging with this wonderful thought provoking verse. It's wonderful how God uses different ways of giving us that word of encouragement and motivation and just at the time that He knows we need it.
What a mighty God we serve :)

Living in western Washington, I am well acquainted with slugs and the term "sluggish" has vivid, icky, imagery and is all too applicable for me.
I really do spend so much time condemning myself for my sluggishness rather than praying, "Wake me up, Lord."
"Thanks for watching over me as I sleepwalk through life" -- I like that. Wake me up, Lord is a great prayer!
